Question (質問)

I am experiencing some problems with the task xisnxbgen. (1) The first problem is: When I run this task it creates lots of warnings (several hundreds depending on the detector) of the format "XISpha2pi: WARNING: HK time=405481208.4 is too far from event time=405487335.9". The HK time is the same for every warning while the event time changes. This only appears when I use the latest CALDB version. I checked if older versions produce the same warnings and when I use a CALDB index file from 2012/05/09 the warnings disappear. All later versions produce the same warnings. As this affects so many events I am not sure if I can ignore it. XIS1 additionally to the first warning produces several hundreds of warnings like "xisnxbgen: WARNING: too short GTI 360314580.5 - 360314582.0 (1.500) at irow=10". I tried to change the time period to time_min=-300 and time_max=-150 but nothing changed. For XIS1 I used the parameter nxbevent and set it to the file "data/suzaku/xis/bcf/ae_xi1_nxbsci6_20121201.fits" in the CALDB directory. Except for the many warnings the task quits normally for all detectors without an error message. My impression is that both warnings are related to the files ae_xi[0,3]_nxbscion_20121201.fits, ae_xi1_nxbsci6_20121201.fits and the corresponding HK files in the CALDB directory. Please find attached the logfiles for xisnxbgen for all detectors. (2) The second problem might be related to the first one: When I look at the output spectra in ds9 they look strange for XIS1 and XIS3, but for XIS0 it seems to be normal. For XIS1 and XIS3 there is only background data in a small band of the region I specified in the regfile-parameter. Outside this band the value of each pixel is 0. In the detector area the value is -1. I tried to use regions in SKY and DET coordinate system but this didn't help. So even If I can ignore the above warnings, I can not use the spectra of XIS1 and 3 for analysis.

Answer (答え)

(2013-03-15) The XIS calibration team found a bug in the NXB CALDB files. They have fixed the files which will be released soon. This should solve the problem (2) above.

(2013-04-23) The new calibration files have been released. Those files should fix the problem. http://www.astro.isas.jaxa.jp/suzaku/caldb/history/xis/index.html#20130305
