Question (質問)

I am reducing the data for the NGC5548 monitoring campaign (702042050), a fairly faint point source. I have followed the Recipe in the ABC guide (Version 2). Mostly these work fine, but I have 2 questions:

1) How do I decide what is a reasonable value for the parameter 'num_photon' in 'xissimarfgen'? Is 'fast' mode (num_photon=50000) enough?

2) The .rmf and .arf files cannot be loaded by Xspec correctly. But after I combine them into the .rsp file by 'addascaspec', Xspec can load the .rsp file correctly. Is there any problem with the .rmf and arf files?

Answer (答え)

1) We recommend to use "medium" mode of xisresp for your analysis. Our baseline recommendation is to follow the ABC guide "6.5.4.4 Tips for Reducing Run Time of xissimarfgen", but we think the "medium" mode is enough for your point source analysis.

2) You should read the response and arf files explicitly in XSPEC. Those files are not read automatically.
