Hello,
Sorry to be a bother, but I had a few quick questions
concerning analysis of Version 2.0 data products:
1) Which PIN and GSO backgrounds are appropriate for
use with version 2.0 data products? (The May 21, 2007 HXD
calibration status report noted that new GSO background
files would be needed for v2.0 products).
Are the PIN background files that were used with version
1.2 data okay to use?
2) Is the Gain History File for the GSO pipeline data now
okay in the latest reprocessing, or do we still need to
re-run the hxdmkgainhist, hxdmkgainhist_gso and
hxdmkgainhist_pin tasks using the GSO Gain History File
from the CALDB?
3) Is it okay for us to use the GSO ARF file with version
2.0 data?
4) The observation I'm currently analyzing was observed on
24-26 June 2006. The GSO background file for version 1.2
looked "wrong", that is, it looked "step-like", just like the
background file on the plot of last page of the May 21, 2007 HXD
calibration status report, which noted that some GSO bkgd
files around 2006.3 were created incorrectly. Will there
be corrected GSO background files available for use?
HXD team
Dear Dr. Markowitz,
We are sorry for late reply.
Here are answers for your question.
1) (the same answer for Q0065)
Now, HXD/PIN non X-ray background (NXB) files for data processed
using version 2.0 are available from the following location:
ftp://legacy.gsfc.nasa.gov/suzaku/data/background/pinnxb_ver2.0/
Please use these background files for your version 2.x data.
For details, please see
http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/suzaku/analysis/pinbgd.html
The responses for version 2.0 are also available in the latest
CALDB.
On the other hand, HXD/GSO non X-ray background (NXB) files for
version 2.0 are not available yet. Although the HXD team is in
haste to make the GSO NXBs, it takes about a month from now.
So please wait for a while. We greatly appreciate your patience.
The HXD team is preparing web pages for the analysis of ver 2.x
data. Please check frequently
http://www.astro.isas.jaxa.jp/suzaku/analysis/hxd/
along with the GOF pages.
2)
The gain of GSO files which have experienced ver1.x
processing (before 2007/06/25) is correctly calibrated
in ver2.0 processing. For data which need re-processing
by GOs themselves, we are preparing a document in
http://www.astro.isas.jaxa.jp/suzaku/analysis/hxd/.
3)
The GSO arf provided in ver1.x term is also applicable
for ver2.0 data. If your find that results of ver1.2 and
ver2.0 after applying the GSO arf are different significantly,
please let us know.
When you use the GSO arf, please read carefully
http://www.astro.isas.jaxa.jp/suzaku/analysis/hxd/gsoarf.
4)
We checked the GSO NXB file in 24-26 June 2006,
and found nothing wrong in the file.
As you can see in the figure attached to this email,
50-200 keV count rates of night earth and background
model agree within 2%.
In order to understand the situation you faced,
we ask you to send more detailed information such
as,
a) the place (URL) you took the NXB file.
b) your analysis environment.
c) the method of extracting NXB spectrum.
d) the log of the extracting process.
e) the figure of the spectrum.
We would greatly appreciate your cooperation.
Best regards,
HXD team
