Question (質問)

I was extracting an NTE background for our recently received pointing following instructions given on the web page http://www.astro.isas.jaxa.jp/suzaku/analysis/xis/nte/.
Under "[3] How to make COR weighted background spectra as mentioned above" the first stage "1. Make COR sorted NTE spectra from the NTE database event files." was completed succesfully using an event file and an ehk file provided by the web page.

In the second stage "2. Make COR sorted spectra of the source observation, using the same tool mk_corsorted_spec_v1.0.pl." I run a command

./mk_corsorted_spec_v1.0.pl -i ae801003010xi3_0_3x3n066a_cl.evt -d . -e
ae801003010xi3_0.hk -ed . -s 3 -o src -r bkg_galactic_detxy.reg
I got the following error message (for all "COR ranges"):
 !xsel:SUZAKU-XIS3-STANDARD > select hk "COR>12 && COR<=13"
PREFR keyword not found, using prefr = 0.5
POSTFR keyword not found, using postfr = 0.5
maketime2.9 : Failed to parse expression
 maketime2.9 : Error Status Returned : 202
maketime2.9 : keyword not found in header

 maketime2.9 : ***** FITSIO Error Stack Dump *****
ffgcnn could not find column: COR
ffgkey could not find keyword: COR .
The instructions say that one should use an ehk file here, but we do not have such a file. With our data for A2104 we only received a hk file per observation, and we used that in the above. Perhaps this is the reason for the problem? How could we produce a proper ehk file?

In the third stage "3. Make COR weighted NTE background spectra appropriate for the source observation" no more error messages were receved. The run did produce an output file but I wonder whether the above error message is significant, and whether this file is corrupted in some way.

Answer (答え)

The ehk file is already provided in the auxil/ directory of the data distribution. The directory structure is as follows:
{$OBSID}/
        auxil/
                ae{$OBSID}.ehk
        hxd/
        log/
        xis/
                event_cl/
                        ae{$OBSID}xi{$S}_?_{mode}{ucode}_cl.evt
Thus one needs to make a link to, or copy, the ehk file in the work directory.
